ATEX Category 3 Zone 2 (Gas) and Zone 22 (Dust) Static Dissipative / Grounded Vacuum Cleaner Systems. Designed for the remediation of asbestos, silica, lead and mold.
ATTENTION: during normal operation, in ATEX Zone 22 there are no explosive dusts. Zone 22 isn't an explosive atmosphere.
For the recovery of combustible/conductive dusts you need a vacuum cleaner/dust collector specifically designed for these applications (ATEX Category 1 or 2)
In the presence of combustible/Conductive dusts, as per ANNEX II of ATEX 1999/92/EC, you need an ATEX Category 1, 2 or 3 vacuum cleaner/dust collector.
WARNING -Please take note of the following: Since a "cloud of dust" is not defined by ATEX, the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) warns that more than 0.8 mm of combustible dust laying on 5% of the floor of a room is considered a threat of explosion.
Language that CANNOT be used when speaking about ATEX vacuums:
ATEX Type 22 for ATEX Zone 22
Atex Vacuum for Zone 22
Hazardous Dust ? for Zone 22
Vacuum Cleaner ATEX Type H for Zone 22
The ATEX Zone 22 vacuum cleaner can recover large quantities in Zone 22
Vacuum cleaner 15 ATEX (is this a new directive?)
Language that MUST be used when speaking about ATEX vacuums:
Category 1 ATEX Vacuum Cleaner
Category 2 ATEX Vacuum Cleaner
Category 3 ATEX Vacuum Cleaner
Why?
To operate in ATEX Zone 22 only ATEX Category 1 & 2 Explosion Proof Vacuum Cleaners are designed to recover combustible & conductive dusts ensuring the health and safety of the end users.
DEFINITION OF A ZONE 22 ACCORDING TO ANNEX I OF ATEX DIRECTIVE 1999/92/CE
A: Zone 22
A place in which an explosive atmosphere in the form of a cloud of combustible dust in air is not likely to occur in normal operation but, if it does occur, will persist for a short period only.
Self-certified ATEX Category 3 vacuum cleaners for use in ATEX Zone 22 hazardous areas have been designed to be used in the presence of combustible dusts but not to recover combustible dusts.
B: Category 3 as defined in the Directive 94/9/EC
Comprises equipment designed to be capable of functioning in conformity with the operating parameters established by the manufacturer and ensuring a normal level of protection.
Equipment in this category is intended for use in areas in which explosive atmospheres caused by gases, vapors, mists, or air/dust mixtures are unlikely to occur or, if they do occur, are likely to do so only infrequently and for a short period only.
Equipment in this category ensures the requisite level of protection during normal operation.
C: Requirements concerning Ingress Protection Rating (IP) as per ATEX harmonized standard IEC 61241-1 Paragraph 6
Dust-tight enclosures IP6X shall be applied for use in:
– zone 20;
– zone 21;
– zone 22 with conductive dust.
Dust-protected enclosures IP5X shall be applied for use in:
– zone 22 with non-conductive dust.
SELECTION CRITERIA FOR VACUUM CLEANERS

MFS - Manual Filter Shaker System
The Manual Fitler Shaker system allows the operator to clean the main filter without having to open the vacuum cleaner. This shaker System reduces maintenance down time.
The Manual Filter Shaker System consists of a spring action mechanism operating directly onto the filter cage located inside of the filter chamber. The system is operated by pressing on the ergonomic handle located on the side or top of the filter chamber.
The Manual Filter Shaker dislodges the accumulated caked-on dust from the filter thus improving the filter’s performance.
The filter, along with the filter cage, can be easily removed from the filter chamber and washed with lukewarm water and mild detergents.
DT - Detachable Recovery Tank
Many of our vacuum cleaners come equipped with a detachable tank for the easy disposal of recovered materials. Our detachable tanks range in size from 20 to 160 liters (5.28 gal to 42.25 gal) and are available in stainless steel or powder coated, with or without wheels for maneuverability.

MRP - Manual Reverse Purge System
The Manual Reverse Purge (MRP) System allows the operator to not have to open the vacuum cleaner in order to clean the Cartridge. By opening the Reverse Purge Atmospheric Pressure Release Valve the Cartridge is automatically purged of dusts. This Purging System reduces maintenance down time.
The Manual Reverse Purge (MRP) works by :
1 - Closing the slider on the opening to block the suction intake orifice for approximately 5 seconds while the vacuum is running.
2 - Then quickly open Purge Valve. Air is now flowing via the valve through to the filter.
Keep Purge Valve open for 1-2 seconds then close (repeat above steps 2 or 3 times).
Reverse Purge System will cause dust to fall off of the filter.

HEPA - High Efficiency Particulate Air Filter
A HEPA filter is a type of air filter, which means it filters the air coming in or out of the vacuum cleaner system. It can remove at least 99.99% of dust, pollen, mould, bacteria and any other airborn particles with a size of 0.3 micron or larger.
North-America: Each HEPA Filter has a minimum filtration efficiency of 99.99% on 0.3 micron. Tested as per IES-RP-CC001.3.
Europe: Each HEPA Filter has a minimum filtration efficiency of 99.995% on 0.3 micron, rated H14 as per EN 1822 by MPPS method.
